  • It depends on the type:

    • Earlobe: 6–8 weeks

    • Cartilage: 3–12 months

    • Nose: 2–6 months

    • Navel: 6–12 months

    • Lip/Oral: 6–8 weeks

  • Use sterile saline solution or UNSCENTED and GENTLE soap

    Avoid alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or harsh soaps.

  • Typically 2–3 times a day during the initial healing phase.

  • If a jewelry change is necessary please consult your piercer. Otherwise, wait until it’s fully healed. Changing it early can cause irritation or infection.

    • Touching it with dirty hands

    • Swimming in pools, lakes, hot tubs, or the ocean

    • Sleeping on the piercing

    • Tight clothing over the area

    • Using ointments or creams that trap bacteria

    • Mild redness, swelling, and tenderness are normal for the first few days. If it worsens or doesn’t improve, please contact your piercer immediately.

  • Watch for:

    • Intense redness/swelling

    • Warmth around the area

    • Pus (yellow/green discharge)

    • Pain that’s getting worse

    • Fever (in severe cases)

  • Clean with saline, avoid removing jewelry (to prevent abscesses), and see a piercer or doctor if symptoms escalate.

  • It could be:

    • A keloid (raised scar)

    • A hypertrophic scar (common, harmless swelling)

    • A piercing pimple or fluid-filled bump
      Usually treatable with warm compresses and proper cleaning.

  • ONLY use saline and unscented soap! they are the only piercer approved cleaners!

    Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, Bactine, contact lens saline solution, or ointments (Aquaphor, A&D, Neosporin, Vaseline, ect.)—they can irritate or trap bacteria., diluted tea tree oil helps with bumps, but it can also irritate skin. Only use if advised by a professional.

    • No moving! Twisting or moving the jewelry can tear healing tissue and cause irritation or bumps.

    • Is it normal for it to hurt when I bump it months later?
      Yeah, kinda. Even semi-healed piercings can be sensitive to trauma. Just clean it and keep an eye on it.

    • Can I wear makeup around my nose?
      Be careful! Avoid foundation or powders near the piercing. they can clog or infect it.

    • What if a crust forms around the piercing?
      Totally normal! It’s just dried lymph fluid. Gently clean it with saline and don’t pick at it.

    • Use precaution when using hair products or fragrances around facial and ear piercings

    • Avoid earbuds, hats, helmets
      Anything that touches or squeezes your ear can irritate it.

    • Avoid sleeping on it
      Try a travel pillow or sleep on the opposite side. pressure = irritation = bumps.

    • Don’t twist or rotate the jewelry. Clean it with a clean gauze or cotton pad.

    • Pat dry with a paper towel
      No washcloths or bathroom towels (bacteria-central).

    • Avoid makeup & skincare near the piercing
      Especially foundations, sunscreens, moisturizers. they can clog or irritate the piercing site.

    • Stick with high-quality jewelry
      Implant-grade titanium, niobium, or solid gold are ideal to prevent reactions.

    • Watch for Migration: If the piercing seems to be getting shallower or jewelry is hanging funny, check in with a piercer.

    • Eyebrow piercings! Avoid: Plucking around the area or using brow makeup.

    • Bridge piercings! Avoid: Glasses or anything that presses directly on it. Also no pressure from sleeping masks or goggles.

    • NO makeup or face wash with fragrance, alcohol, or harsh chemicals

    • NO picking off “crusties” soak and dab instead

    • Use precaution when using hair products or fragrances around facial and ear piercings

  • Rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash

    • After everything you eat, drink (except water), smoke, or kiss 😘

    • Brush 2x a day with a soft-bristle brush.

    • Floss once a day

    • Cold stuff is your friend (for tongue/lip)

      • Ice water, cold drinks, and popsicles reduce swelling

      • Avoid super spicy, acidic, alcoholic foods & drinks early on

      • Hands off the jewelry

        No playing, flipping, twisting, or chewing the jewelry. It’s a fast way to irritate or tear tissue.

      • Eating adjustments soft foods early on help.

      • Pro tip: You’ll start with a long bar to accommodate swelling. get it downsized after healing to avoid chipping teeth or gum damage.

    • Clean both inside and outside:

      • Outside: Use saline 2–3 times a day

      • Inside: Rinse with alcohol-free mouthwash after eating

    Avoid:

    • Lip balm near the piercing

    • Kissing or oral contact early on

    • Smoking — it irritates and slows healing

    • Vertical labret tip: Since both ends are external, clean both sides like a surface piercing.

    • Brush 2x a day with a soft-bristle brush

    • Cold stuff is your friend (for tongue/lip)

      • Ice water, cold drinks, and popsicles reduce swelling

      • Avoid super spicy or acidic foods early on.

    • No playing, flipping, twisting, or chewing the jewelry — it’s a fast way to irritate or tear tissue

      • Avoid soaking in tubs, pools, or hot tubs for the first 6–8 weeks.

    • In the shower, let warm water rinse over the area, then clean afterward.

    • Navel piercing tip: Use a breathable bandage over it during sleep or activity (like yoga or tight jeans days) but stick with lose pants as much as possible in the beginning.

    • Nipple Piercings

    • Expect swelling, itching, and occasional crusting

    • Avoid: Tight bras, friction from fabric, and sleeping on your chest

    • Wear a cotton bralette or sports bra for support, especially at night

    • Clean with saline only, and skip soaps or lotions near the area.

    • Face your shower head and let the water in the shower take the crusties off. No picking!
